Products & Lifts
8 questions
What's the difference between a 2-post and a 4-post lift?
A 2-post lift suspends the vehicle by its frame, giving you full access to the undercarriage β ideal for oil changes, brake work, and suspension repairs. A 4-post lift is a drive-on platform that supports the vehicle by its wheels. It's better for storage, alignments, and long-term projects where full undercarriage access isn't needed. Not sure which is right for you? Call us and we'll help you decide.
What ceiling height do I need for a car lift?
Most standard 2-post lifts require a minimum ceiling height of 11β12 feet to reach full extension. Low-rise lifts can work in ceilings as low as 8β9 feet. Scissor lifts are the most ceiling-friendly option. Tell us your ceiling height and we'll match you with the right lift.
How much weight can your lifts hold?
Our lifts range from 7,000 lbs to 18,000 lbs capacity depending on the model. Most home garage lifts handle 9,000β10,000 lbs, which covers cars, SUVs, and light trucks. We also carry heavy-duty options for larger trucks and commercial vehicles. Always check the specific model's rated capacity and never exceed it.
What is a scissor lift and who is it best for?
A scissor lift uses a hydraulic mechanism with crossing arms to raise the vehicle from a low-profile base. It's ideal for wheel and tire service, alignment work, and garages with limited ceiling height. It doesn't provide full undercarriage access like a 2-post, but it's compact, stable, and perfect for a specific set of tasks.
Will your lifts fit in a standard residential garage?
Most of our lifts are designed for home garages. A standard 2-car garage (20x20 feet) can typically fit a 2-post or 4-post lift with room to work comfortably. Before ordering, confirm your ceiling height, floor dimensions, and concrete slab thickness (minimum 4 inches required). Call us with your measurements and we'll advise you directly.
Are your lifts certified or safety rated?
Yes. Our lifts meet ALI (Automotive Lift Institute) and ANSI standards. These certifications confirm the lift has been independently tested and rated for its specified load capacity and safety features. We only carry lifts from manufacturers who stand behind their safety certifications.
Do you carry commercial or heavy-duty lifts?
Yes β we carry lifts suited for commercial shops, dealerships, and heavy-duty applications. If you need a lift for larger trucks, fleet vehicles, or high-volume shop use, call us directly and we'll walk you through the right options for your specific operation.
Can I use a car lift outdoors?
Car lifts are designed for indoor use on level concrete floors. Outdoor use exposes hydraulic components, electrical systems, and the steel frame to moisture and weather damage β which voids the warranty. If you need outdoor lifting capability, contact us to discuss the best solution for your situation.
Shipping & Delivery
6 questions
How long does shipping take?
Most orders ship within 1β3 business days and arrive within 5β10 business days depending on your location. We ship via freight carrier for most lifts due to their size and weight. You'll receive tracking information as soon as your order ships, and we'll check in after delivery.
Do you ship to all US states?
Yes, we ship to all 48 contiguous US states. Shipping to Hawaii and Alaska may require additional time and cost β contact us for a quote. We currently do not offer international shipping.
What should I do if my lift arrives damaged?
Before signing the delivery receipt, inspect all boxes and pallets carefully. If you notice visible damage, note it clearly on the receipt before signing β "received damaged" is sufficient. Then contact us immediately with photos. We'll file a freight claim and send a replacement or issue a full refund at no cost to you.
Is shipping included in the price?
Shipping costs vary by product and destination. Many of our lifts include free freight shipping to the contiguous US. Any shipping cost will be clearly shown before checkout β no surprise charges. Call us if you'd like a shipping quote before purchasing.
How is a car lift delivered β does it come assembled?
Lifts are shipped disassembled on a freight pallet due to their size. Delivery is typically curbside β the driver brings it to the end of your driveway or building entrance. You'll need to move it into your garage and assemble it using the included instructions. Most customers can assemble a lift with 1β2 helpers in a few hours.
Can I track my order?
Yes β as soon as your order ships, we'll email you the tracking number and carrier information. For freight shipments, the carrier will typically call to schedule a delivery window. If you have any questions about your shipment, call us and we'll check in with the carrier on your behalf.
Installation & Setup
6 questions
Can I install a car lift myself?
Yes β many of our customers successfully self-install their lifts. Each lift comes with a detailed installation manual and all necessary hardware. Most installations take 4β8 hours with 1β2 helpers. Self-installation does not void the warranty as long as the lift is installed according to the provided instructions. We're available by phone throughout the process if you have any questions.
What kind of concrete floor do I need?
A minimum of 4 inches of reinforced concrete is typically required for most 2-post and 4-post lifts. The concrete should have a minimum compressive strength of 3,000 PSI. If you're unsure about your floor, have it inspected before installing β an inadequate floor is the most common installation issue we see.
What electrical connection is required?
Most of our lifts require a standard 110V/15A or 220V/20A dedicated circuit depending on the model. The specific power requirement is listed on each product page. If you don't have a suitable outlet near your install location, a licensed electrician can run a new circuit β typically straightforward and inexpensive work.
Do I need a permit to install a car lift?
Permit requirements vary by city, county, and state. Some jurisdictions require a permit for permanent equipment installation in a garage; others do not. We recommend checking with your local building department before installation β especially if you're in a neighborhood with an HOA.
How long does installation take?
A typical 2-post or 4-post lift installation takes 4β8 hours with 2 people. A scissor lift is generally faster β 2β4 hours. Time varies based on experience level and whether anchor bolts need to be drilled. We've had customers complete installs in an afternoon; others take a full day. Either way, we're here on the phone if you need us.
What tools do I need to install a car lift?
You'll typically need a rotary hammer drill for anchor bolts, standard wrenches and sockets, a level, a torque wrench, and a tape measure. The specific tools required are listed in the installation manual included with your lift. Most tools needed are found in a standard mechanic's or DIY toolkit.
Warranty
6 questions
How long is the warranty?
2-post and 4-post lifts come with a 5-year structural warranty. Scissor lifts come with a 3-year structural warranty. Hydraulic and electrical components are covered for 1β2 years depending on the model. Full details are on our Warranty page.
Does self-installation void the warranty?
No β self-installation does not void the warranty as long as the lift is installed according to the provided instructions. We want you to be able to install your own lift confidently. If you have questions during installation, call us and we'll walk you through it step by step.
How do I file a warranty claim?
Call or text us at 1-800-GAR-LIFT or email team@garagecarlifts.com. Describe the issue and send a few photos if possible. We'll review your claim within 1 business day and arrange replacement parts or a resolution. Most claims are fully resolved within a week.
Is the warranty transferable if I sell the lift?
Yes β our structural warranty is transferable to a new owner. Contact us with the new owner's details and we'll update the registration. The remaining warranty term carries over, which is a great selling point if you ever decide to sell your lift.
What voids the warranty?
The warranty is voided by: exceeding the rated load capacity, unauthorized modifications, outdoor installation or improper storage, and damage caused by misuse or negligence. Normal wear on consumable parts like wear pads and safety locks is also not covered. See our full Warranty page for details.
Do I need to register my warranty?
Registration is not required for your warranty to be valid β it starts automatically from your purchase date. However, we strongly recommend registering on our Warranty page because it speeds up any future claims and puts your purchase record officially on file with us.
Financing
6 questions
Do you offer financing?
Yes β we offer flexible financing plans with terms from 6 to 48 months. We have a 0% APR promo option for 6-month plans and competitive rates on longer terms. Checking your rate uses a soft inquiry only β no impact on your credit score. Visit our Financing page or call us to learn more.
Will applying for financing affect my credit score?
Checking your rate uses a soft credit inquiry only β no impact on your score whatsoever. A hard inquiry is only made if you choose to proceed with a loan after reviewing and agreeing to a specific plan.
What credit score do I need to qualify?
We work with lenders who accept a range of credit profiles. Most applicants with a score of 580 or above qualify for at least one plan. If your score is lower, don't be discouraged β call us and we'll explore all available options including co-signers and down payment alternatives.
Can I pay off my loan early?
Absolutely β there is no prepayment penalty on any of our financing plans. You can pay off your balance early at any time and save the remaining interest. We encourage early payoff whenever possible.
Is business financing available?
Yes β we offer business financing for auto shops, dealerships, and commercial operations. Business financing may have different terms and rates. Select "Business / Commercial" on the financing application or call us to discuss your needs directly.
How quickly will I receive a financing decision?
Most applications receive a decision within minutes during business hours. In some cases it may take up to 1 business day. We'll reach out by phone or email as soon as we have your result. There's no commitment until you review and agree to a specific plan.
Returns & Refunds
4 questions
What is your return policy?
We accept returns within 30 days of delivery on unused, unassembled items in original packaging. Defective or wrong items are covered with free return shipping and a full refund. Change-of-mind returns may be subject to return shipping costs and a restocking fee of up to 15%. Installed lifts cannot be returned unless defective. Full details on our Returns Policy page.
Can I return a lift I already installed?
Installed lifts generally cannot be returned. However, if your installed lift has a manufacturing defect, it falls under our warranty policy and we'll make it right. If you're unhappy with your installed lift for another reason, call us β we'd rather find a solution than leave you dissatisfied.
How long does a refund take?
Once we receive and inspect the returned item, refunds are processed within 3β5 business days back to your original payment method. You'll receive an email confirmation when the refund is issued. Depending on your bank, it may take a few additional days to appear on your statement.
How do I start a return?
Call or text us at 1-800-GAR-LIFT, email team@garagecarlifts.com, or use the return request form on our Returns Policy page. Tell us your order number and reason for return. We'll review your request same day and walk you through the next steps.
